I’m a systems person: I carry out research in a wide variety of areas including operating systems, networking and distributed systems. My background at Ericsson was on multimedia communications over (then) emerging broadband networks, and my PhD looked at how to do memory management for a soft real-time operating system called Nemesis. For the past several years, one considerable focus has been in the area of virtualization, based chiefly around the Xen virtual machine monitor developed at the University of Cambridge as part of the larger XenoServer project. My work in the area of virtualization has considered aspects of performance, security and manageability. However in parallel I have also continued to work on dependability, storage, peer-to-peer systems, networking and concurrency. Most recently, I've joined Microsoft Research, Silicon Valley Lab, where I'm looking forward to working with some of the smartest folks in the world.
