Sian Lindley

I am a researcher in the field of HCI, and have been a member of the Socio-Digital Systems (SDS) group at Microsoft Research in Cambridge since April 2007. I am particularly interested in how technology can be designed to support, and how it influences, social behaviour.

Since joining SDS, I have worked on a number of field studies exploring how households use various prototype technologies, including a visual answer machine called BubbleBoard, a lifelogging camera named SenseCam and a situated home messaging device known as Wayve. I am also interested in how technology can be designed to fit the needs and values of older adults, and have been exploring this area for the past two years.

Before working at Microsoft Research, I undertook a PhD on the effects of technology on the photo sharing behaviours of collocated groups. I continue to hold an interest in how computing can support co-present users, and was recently involved in a field study of how school children used a storytelling application, TellTable, which was run using Microsoft Surface.

This website provides an overview of my papers, patents and theses. For pdf files of my older publications, please see my personal website: www.sianlindley.co.uk
