Current projects
I am currently involved in a diverse range of research projects spanning ubiquitous computing, wearable cameras, interaction technologies, environmentally-aware computer systems and beyond. Some of the higher-profile projects I am working on are outlined here:
- SenseCam is a wearable camera that takes photos automatically and which is proving to have great potential as an aid to recall for people with memory loss - it is currently being evaluated in a number of clinical settings. Sensecam is also proving to be an incredibly powerful tool for studying the processes of autobiographical memory and is helping cognitive neuroscientists develop their theoretical models.
- ThinSight is a thin form-factor multitouch display which combines LCD technology with infra-red optical sensing.
- SecondLight is a completely new type of display that supports interaction in the space in front or above it - bringing interaction out into the real world.
- Somniloquy is a new approach to network interface design that enables desktop PCs to maintain a network presence even when they are in very low power standby states.
Other projects that I'm involved in are described on the Sensors and Devices group web site.
