PRINCIPAL RESEARCHER
.

Background

I am a researcher in the Interactive Visual Media Group at Microsoft Research Redmond. Before joining MSR in 2006, I was an Associate Research Professor in the Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon University. I obtained a Ph.D. in the Department of Computer Science at Columbia University in 1998, an M.A. in Mathematics from Trinity College, Cambridge in 1995, an M.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of Edinburgh in 1992 and a B.A. in Mathematics from Trinity College, Cambridge in 1991.

Research Interests

My research interests lie in the field of computer vision. Currently, I am particularly interested in the areas of video and face recognition. In the past at CMU I worked on projects in face modeling and tracking, human body modeling and tracking, super-resolution, 3D reconstruction, vision for safe driving, and projector-camera systems.

Publications

A list of my publications since joining Microsoft Research is available here. A more complete list including publications prior to joining MSR is available here.

Software

My research software has shipped as part of Microsoft Expression Encoder 2 and has been used to enhance content for Xbox Live Marketplace:

My AAM-based face tracking system, developed with Iain Matthews, Jing Xiao, and Ralph Gross at CMU, is being used for facial motion capture in the production of Avatar (James Cameron) and Tin Tin (Steven Spielberg).
