My research interests are motivated by the goal of facilitating the conservation of ecological systems. This encompasses research ranging from the study of multi-scale impacts of conservation interventions to the complexities of species interactions. My research challenges me to predict outcomes for ecological communities faced with an increasingly uncertain environment, while integrating the inherent social dimensions of this problem. I do my best to tie together robust ecological theory with effective environmental conservation, all while innovating distributed data collection systems.

About

I am a Scientist in the Computational Ecology and Environmental Science (CEES). The CEES group sits within the broader Computational Science Lab, which is overseen by Stephen Emmott. I also hold an Honorary Research Fellowship at the Durrell Institute for Conservation and Ecology (DICE) at the University of Kent.

I completed my bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Ecology and Zoology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2004, with Dr. Stan Temple as my major advisor. I earned a doctorate in Ecology in 2009 from Duke University's Nicholas School of the Environment, where I studied under Dr. Stuart Pimm. I have worked broadly in the field of ecology in government, private, and academic sectors. Between completing my bachelor's degree and beginning graduate school I was a consultant to Malawi's Department of National Parks and Wildlife as a Peace Corps Volunteer.
