Dr. Jiang Li joined Visual Computing Group, Microsoft Research Asia as Researcher in January 1999. He became Lead Researcher of Internet Media Group in 2002, Research Manager of Media Communication Group in 2004. He invented Bi-level video, Portrait video, and Watercolor video, which are suitable to very low bandwidth network. He released Microsoft Portrait, the first video communication software prototype on Pocket PC and Smartphone. He is now leading Media Communication Group on research of mobile video communication, multiparty conferencing, multi-view video, peer-to-peer streaming, and performance analysis of distributed systems.
Before joining Microsoft, Dr. Li was Associate Professor at Physics Department, Zhejiang University. Dr. Li received his Ph.D in Applied Mathematics from the State Key Laboratory of Computer Aided Design and Computer Graphics, Zhejiang University in 1998. After obtaining his M.S. degree in Optics from Physics Department, Zhejiang University in 1992, Dr. Li joined the university's faculty. Dr. Li received his B.S. degrees in both Applied Physics and Applied Mathematics from Tsinghua University in 1989.
