Welcome to my page.
I am a Research Software Development Engineer (RSDE) in the Advanced Research Tools and Services (ARTS) team within the External Research program at Microsoft Research. I joined Microsoft in 2003 and Microsoft Research in 2007.
Before joining research, I was on the User Experience team for Microsoft Office 2007, which was a great experience. It was my team that designed and implemented the Ribbon User Interface you now see at the top of many Office Applications.
Prior to my work at Microsoft I also spent three years at IBM's Almaden Research Center. I earned a B.S. in Computer Science from Harvey Mudd College and an M.S. in Computer Science from Stanford University.
My current research interests focus largely around electronic science, helping scientific researchers outside of the domain of computer science have the tools they need to do their computationally demanding research. My main project is the Trident Scientific Workflow Workbench, which should be completed and shared with the community in early 2009.
I am also interested in robotics and education and worked for some time to help the Institute for Personal Robotics in Education (IPRE).
I am also always interested in improving the interfaces people are exposed to when using technology. As such I often dable in the latest UI technologies and even look to gaming (XNA, Boku) and new hardware (Surface) for ideas.
