About

I lead Project Z-Code (opens in new tab), a part of Azure AI Cognitive Services, working within Project Turing (opens in new tab)  to evolve Microsoft products with the adoption of deep learning pre-trained models. We work  on a holistic representation toward integrative AI: XYZ-Code (opens in new tab). XYZ-Code combines three attributes of human cognition: monolingual text (X), audio or visual sensory signals (Y), and multilingual (Z) to create a joint representation enabling more powerful AI applications that can speak, hear, see, and understand humans better.

I lead  an innovative applied research team working on state-of-the-art foundation models empowering multilingual capabilities for Azure AI and across the company. Our work empowers Azure AI and various products and services with the best multilingual capabilities. This includes Translator, Language Cognitive Services, Teams, Office, and more. The team works on projects across the entire deep learning life cycle. This includes designing and building foundation multilingual models, large-scale distributed training, enabling efficient adaptation for downstream tasks and optimized runtime to empower our teams to harness the benefits of the models in the most efficient way.
