I am a researcher with the Communication and Collaboration group at Microsoft Research. I received the B.S. and M.S. from University of Brasília (Brazil), and the Ph.D. from Georgia Tech, all in Electrical Engineering. I joined Microsoft in 1999 as a researcher in the signal processing group. From 1996 to 1999, I was a member of the research staff at the David Sarnoff Research Center. I was also a co-op student with AT&T Human Interface Lab (now part of NCR) from 1994 to 1996, and a Summer intern at Interval Research in 1994. I have published over fifty papers, and authored 28 granted patents.

Research Interests

  • Signal Processing, essentially on all sub-areas. Current main interests include:
    • 3D video
    • Audio/Speech Quality
    • Video and Image Coding
    • telepresence

 

  • Computer security. Main interests include: 
    • User authentication and passwords
    • Economics of the Underground Computer World, including phishing and malware.
