I'm a Research Software Design Engineer (RSDE) in the Advanced Development Team

Lately I've been working on the authoring tool used to produce the pages on this site. This is a WYSIWIG tool that allows researchers to easily create their pages without having to write html. The pages are built by adding modules that allow the creation of custom content as well as the rendering of data from  sources like RSS feeds, the publications data base, the people directory, etc. It's built using a mix of Silverlight and HTML.

Before this, I worked on server-side text flow and pagination for web content. This technology was shown at the MIX 2007 conference. We built a prototype of the New York Times Reader using Silverlight on the client and server-side pagination. You can see it running on the Mac in this video.

Prior to joining MSR I was a developer in Microsoft Visual Studio.

Why is my name so long?

Well, in part because Mexicans (Hispanics in general) use two last names (here's how it works). On top of that my first surname is a compound one (Garcia Jurado).

As you can imagine I dread filling out forms or spelling my last name over the phone ...
