I'm a member of the eScience group focusing on end-to-end management of scientific data. On data discovery front I've been working on SciScope (www.sciscope.org) a search engine that allows discovery and retrieval of environmental data from distributed heterogeneous data repositories. As for data exchange, as part of a collaboration with Australian Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) and San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) I've been working on the development of OGC compliant data exchange standards for water resources/quality observations. On the database side, I'm working on a data model and supporting APIs with the Renaissance Computing Institute (RENCI) and SDSC for environmental data that supports various types of observations including fixed point and moving sensors, bottled samples, rasters from remote sensors and models, and categorical descriptions as well as events like hurricanes and floods.
