Alex is heading the Technology & Tools efforts of the Computatational Science group. His group is researching and engineering new modelling, methodological and data acquisition and analysis tools. There is a special focus on creating software environments that allow scientists to easily build, share, visualise and analyze complex dynamic models and data. His personal interest is in enabling and stimulating creative imagination in scientific discovery via exciting and novel software tools and technologies.
Prior to joining Microsoft Research he has been a strategic consultant for enterprises in the financial services sector. Before joining Microsoft in 1998, Alexander worked in the Healthcare and Automation sector. He designed reasoning engines to handling uncertainty in high-throughput automation systems. Alex holds a doctorate in Electrical Engineering.
