Energy

The energy team’s mission is to invent & revisit technologies that will allow a phone’s battery to last a week without recharge. Towards achieving this ambitious mission we are following a two-pronged approach:

  • First, we are studying and exploring several enabling technologies, including energy harvesting, radio duty cycling, systems engineering, and battery technologies among others.
  • Second, we have started working on projects towards our goal. In one project, we are working on better modeling the energy consumption, including accurately quantifying the energy consumed by different components on the phone and developing models that closely match this consumption.

In another project, we are exploring ways to leverage the cloud to save energy, such as offloading computation and intelligently aggregating notifications.
