  • Craig Mundie
    Chief Research and Strategy Officer

    Craig Mundie was named to the new position of chief research and strategy officer of Microsoft in June 2006. He is working closely with Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates to assume responsibility for the company’s research and incubation efforts – in anticipation of Gates’ departure from a day-to-day role in Microsoft in July 2008.   • Henrique Malvar
    Distinguished Engineer and Managing Director, Microsoft Research

    Henrique “Rico” Malvar became the managing director of the Microsoft Research Redmond lab in March of 2007. Previously, Malvar was one of the directors of the Lab since the summer of 2004 and prior to that he was a senior researcher in and manager of the Signal Processing group since its inception in the fall of 1997; the group evolved into the current Communication and Collaboration Systems and Knowledge Tools groups.     Director, External Research & Programs

    Sailesh Chutani is the director and founder of the External Research & Programs group—an integral part of Microsoft Research that works closely with the academic research community. His passion for nurturing strong, mutually supportive relationships between Microsoft Research and the academic community has been vital in initiating the company’s engagement in robotics, bioinformatics, and affordable computing for emerging markets. His teams invest in innovative research, collaborate with academia and governments to advance education, cultivate next-generation academic thought leaders, and partner to build knowledge economies through a variety of global and regional initiatives and programs.   • Tom Healy
    Lead Program Manager, External Research & Programs

    Thomas E. Healy is lead program manager in the External Research and Programs group at Microsoft Research. In this role, he, along with his staff, manage a portfolio of programs, including university engagements in Latin America and India, the iCampus research alliance, the Microsoft Research New Faculty Fellowship program, the Microsoft Research Faculty Summit, and the worldwide Digital Inclusion program. Tom has been at Microsoft Research for the past six years. Previous to joining Microsoft Research, he worked in the computer industry for 25 years focusing on the role technology plays in education. He has received a B.A. in Education from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and an M.S. in Organizational Development from Lesley University. More...
  • Jaime Puente
    Senior Program Manager, External Research & Programs

    Jaime Puente is a Senior Program Manager at Microsoft Research in the External Research & Programs group and is in charge of the External Research Program in Latin America. Prior to that, he spent 13 years as a faculty member in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral (ESPOL) in Ecuador. His favorite subjects to teach were Computer Networking and Microprocessors. While it was difficult to leave academia to join the Industry, Jaime feels that he is still involved with the academic world through his work in External Research & Programs. He works closely with faculty and graduate students to create greater opportunities for them to pursue research. More...
