What is the basic Faculty Summit schedule?
Arrive on Sunday, July 17, 2011. A welcome dinner will be held at the Hilton Bellevue Hotel at 6:00 P.M. The main Summit presentations and events will be held on Monday, July 18, through noon Wednesday, July 20, at the Microsoft Conference Center. There is a full agenda on Monday and Tuesday, from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., and a half-day agenda on Wednesday, from 8:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. There will also be dinner events on Monday and Tuesday evenings from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. We provide breakfast and lunch at Summit events and dinner on Monday and Tuesday.
Note: Microsoft cannot reimburse you for any meals that you purchase directly.

For which expenses will Microsoft pay? What is not covered?
Microsoft will host sponsored Faculty Summit participants during the Summit dates, July 18–20, 2011. If approved by your institution and/or permitted by the laws in your country/region, covered expenses include Microsoft direct-paid, round-trip air travel; program meals; program events; and hotel accommodations. Any items purchased directly by an attendee (including any meals obtained outside the program and ground transportation to/from the airport) are at the expense of that attendee. If the attendee travels with a spouse/companion, all travel expenses for the spouse/companion are the responsibility of the attendee and are not covered by Microsoft. Microsoft will not reimburse attendees for any expenses they incur.
Is transportation provided?
Summit buses will be provided on a regular schedule from the hotels, conference center, and social events. Microsoft will not provide ground transportation to and from SeaTac Airport and the Summit hotel. The average cost for a taxi from the airport is US$55.00. We have arranged for a discounted rate of US$19.00 with Shuttle Express. To take advantage of this special price, you can make a reservation in advance by one of the following methods:

What is the dress code?
Please dress casually and comfortably. You do not need to wear a coat or tie. The temperature in Seattle is usually quite pleasant in the summer. Normal day-time temperature is 80 degrees Fahrenheit. It rarely exceeds 90 degrees. However, it does cool off quite a bit in the evenings, sometimes falling to 60–65 degrees Fahrenheit with a cool breeze. Although we hope for good weather, be prepared for possible rain.

Will I receive access to presentations after the Faculty Summit?
Speakers who elect to share their presentations will post their files to this website.
Are meals provided?
Continental breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be served on Monday, July 18, and Tuesday, July 19; continental breakfast and lunch will be served on Wednesday, July 20. Please note that Microsoft will not pay for any meals that are not included in the Summit agenda and cannot reimburse you for any meals that you purchase directly.
What if I have dietary restrictions or food allergies?
You are asked if you have any dietary requirements or food allergies during the registration process. If you specified Halal or Kosher in your registration, you will be ordered a special meal. Please check with the registration desk upon your arrival to arrange pick-up.
May I use my phone during the Faculty Summit?
We ask that you set your pager or cellular phone to silent or vibrate during the Summit presentations. If you need to leave the presentation room, please do so with a minimum of disruption to other participants. The agenda has been arranged with morning and afternoon breaks for email and phone access. Wireless Internet is available in the Conference Center.
May I take photographs during presentations?
Photographs are permitted only during the first five minutes of a presentation. We ask that you refrain from taking pictures during the remainder of each presentation. The speakers and other participants will appreciate your cooperation.
Is smoking permitted?
Smoking is not permitted in the Microsoft Conference Center. Smoking is permitted in designated areas outside the building.
Why do you need my dean/department head's name?
In order to comply with regional laws and regulations, institutional gift and ethics policies, and Microsoft’s internal policies, we are required to complete an approval process prior to offering any items of value (including travel, accommodation, and food) if you are part of an academic, research, or government-controlled institution. In most cases, the first step of this approval process is to obtain written approval from your dean/department head (or a compliance or ethics officer for non-academic institutions). We greatly appreciate your understanding and cooperation with this process.
How do I obtain an invitation letter for my visa?
Send an email message to firstname.lastname@example.org requesting that we send you the required form. We will send you the form as well as instructions on where to send it in order to obtain your invitation letter. You will receive a digital copy of your letter within five to seven business days. You can also request that a copy be mailed to you.
Why do you need my personal information?
We must collect this information to make your air travel arrangements. We will use your information solely for that purpose. Microsoft respects your privacy. To learn more, read our Privacy Statement.
Will I need to provide a credit card at the hotel?
Yes, the hotel will request a credit or debit card for incidentals (phone calls, room service, laundry, and so forth) charged to your room. When you check in, the hotel will put a pre-authorization hold of US$50 per day on your credit or debit card for incidentals. This amount is above any hold that would be placed for room and tax for which you may be responsible. The amount held, minus what you spend on incidentals, will be released in approximately five to seven days after you check out. If the card is a debit card, which is directly tied to a checking account, the amount held is frozen and not spendable in the checking account.
