Each year, Microsoft Research invites academic investigators with whom it has been collaborating to present their research progress and findings at an overall project review meeting. At the External Research Symposium, held on April 6 and 7, 2010, more than 100 researchers joined colleagues at Microsoft Research in Redmond, Washington, to review these projects, compare findings, and discuss their investigative goals and strategies for the future.
The event included presentations that provided in-depth details about a select number of the research projects. During poster sessions, all projects were explained, reviewed, and discussed. The researchers were available to answer questions about the technologies developed, next steps planned for their investigations, and any new directions indicated by the findings.
Several major categories of research areas were examined, including the following:
- Health and Well-Being
- Earth, Energy, and Environment
- Computer Science
- Education and Scholarly Communications
- Advanced Research Tools and Services
The Microsoft External Research Symposium was an invitation-only event. However, researchers and others who wish to see information about the projects and outcomes discussed at the symposium are encouraged to access presentations, posters, and other materials online by clicking the links at the right.
