Developers’ Training for Environmental Research: a Microsoft eScience Workshop
Open Data for Open Science—Developers’ Training for Environmental Research was a two-day, hands-on workshop. Participants learned about the latest technologies from Microsoft that can help them productively share, access, consume, and present the environmental data that they use in their research. We introduced the Open Data Protocol (OData), an effective solution to data interoperability problems, and used it throughout the week.
Presentations and tutorials focused on the latest Microsoft technologies including:
- Windows Azure Marketplace
- SQL Spatial
- PowerPivot for Excel
- Bing Maps and SDK
- WorldWide Telescope
Participants brought scenarios and problems that they have with their research data, interacted with Microsoft technologies and fellow workshop participants to develop solutions, and presented their solution designs at the workshop's conclusion.
Free registration was provided to the first 40 participants to register.
