ELDA, formerly known as SureMail, is a Microsoft Research project designed to address the problem of e-mail loss. Approximately 1 percent of all e-mail is lost because of infrastructure failures and aggressive spam filtering, and because e-mail loss is a "silent" problem, users generally aren't even aware of it. ELDA is an Outlook 2007 add-in that alerts users of e-mail sent to them that has been delayed or lost.

To run this software, you’ll need the following:
- US-EN (US English) version of Microsoft Outlook 2007. ELDA will not work with other versions of Outlook, such as Outlook 2003.
- Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, and Windows Vista. All other Windows versions should be considered unsupported; there is no Mac version of ELDA.
- ELDA works best with an Exchange mailbox, but it will also work with Windows Live Hotmail Plus (via Outlook Connector), IMAP, and POP3 (for example, Yahoo!, Gmail) mailboxes subject to some caveats (for more details, see Known Issues). You may possibly run into provider-specific issues when using IMAP or POP3 servers.
To install ELDA, do the following:
- Quit Outlook 2007.
- Click Download.
- Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.
ELDA is a research prototype, and as such has received much less testing than a regular Microsoft product. That said, other than a longer startup and shutdown time (depending on your mailbox size), and more frequent Send/Receive operations (for Hotmail and POP3 mailboxes), running ELDA should not detract from your normal Outlook experience.
There is no official product support for ELDA, although we will do our best to help you if you report a problem.
If you find a bug, you can easily report it by clicking Events at the top of the ELDA pane, and then clicking the Report Bug button in the Events dialog box. Please include the steps needed to reproduce — or that led up to — the problem if at all possible.
