Background: PhD Fellowship Program
The program began in 1999, and since then it has attracted approximately 850 PhD candidates from 50 universities in the Asia-Pacific region and 341 PhD students have received honors or a scholarship.
The Fellowship Program provides each fellowship awardee a unique opportunity to experience hands-on research at Microsoft Research Asia. During the three-month or six-month-long internships at the Beijing lab, students work with outstanding researchers on an advanced research project, gaining valuable research experience, and becoming familiar with the corporate research environment while expanding their network connections. To date, more than 178 fellows have interned and more than 36 fellows have joined Microsoft Research Asia as researchers after graduation
