A workshop for researchers who are interested in natural user interfaces and Kinect for Windows

What's New in NUIMicrosoft Research is delighted to present What's New in NUI, a workshop for academics who are interested in natural user interfaces (NUIs) and using Microsoft Kinect technology in their research. In this informational workshop, academics and their students have a special opportunity to hear about our work in the field of NUI, including recent advancements in Kinect for Windows.

Participants will hear from Dr. Stewart Tansley, director, Microsoft Research Connections, who is responsible for Microsoft's academic research partnerships related to NUI—especially device-oriented, such as cyber-physical systems, robotics, and sensor networks. In 2011, he was acting product manager for the Kinect for Windows software development kit (SDK) from Microsoft Research. Additional speakers include Dr. Neil Roodyn, nsquared director, Microsoft regional director, and Most Valuable Professional. Our special guest will be Associate Professor Jian Zhang from the University of Technology, Sydney.

Workshop Topics

Kinect for WindowsPresentations and discussion will focus on:

  • Current and future NUI research, trends, and challenges
  • An intensive tutorial on Kinect for Windows
  • An Australian Kinect project recently funded by Microsoft Research Connections
