Microsoft Research Seminar Series - Security Workshop

Robinson Executive Centre, 4–6 November 2002.

The general themes covered by this Security Seminar included:

  • Real World Aspects of Security
Security of any modern information technology device is highly dependent upon the environment that it is in, the humans who use and manage it, and the role that it must play. There are also important privacy concerns that must be carefully considered.
  • Microsoft .NET Security Framework
With the imminent widespread deployment of Microsoft .NET and applications that rely on it, the security built into the .NET Framework will become a major issue for security.
  • Mobility and Security
Mobile systems have unique and novel security requirements and as consumers demand more and more mobility in the technology around them, these issues will become increasingly important.
  • Security Testing and Tools
As a major vendor of both operating systems and applications software, Microsoft has a key responsibility to provide secure systems.  This final theme will discuss some of the software engineering practices and tools that Microsoft uses to achieve this goal.
