Communication Systems
A CCS research area
Areas of Research
The mission of the Communication Systems group is
to advance the state-of-the-art in media storage and delivery. Exploring the
recent advancement in Signal Processing, Data Compression, Information Theory,
Communication Theory and Practice, and Distributed Network and System, we work
to improve users' every day life experience with stored media and media
communication through a variety of Microsoft products. The research areas of the
Communication Systems group include:
-
Information Coding.
We have worked on all forms of information coding, including audio,
image, video, and graphic compression, as well as advanced media compression
techniques, such as Scalable Media Compression, Multi Description Coding,
Interactive Compressed Media Browsing, Distributed Media Compression and
Network Coding.
-
Real Time Audio/Video
Conferencing. We have worked on algorithms, protocols,
systems and infrastructure that improve the quality of experience of
Real-Time Audio/Video Conferencing.
-
Network
Media Delivery. We have developed
optimization framework and algorithms that maximize the rate-distortion
performance of media delivery and audio/video conferencing.
-
Peer-to-Peer Media Delivery.
We have investigated the user of peer-to-peer system to improve the media
delivery experience.
-
Wireless Communication.
We have explored the use of advanced wireless communication technology for
media delivery and communication.
-
Distributed
Storage. We have investigate the use of erasure coding and
de-duplication technology in distributed storage systems.
-
Security.
We have developed PRU (Password Re-Use) antiphishing technique.
