Dear VCIP 2005 Participants,
On behalf of the VCIP 2005 organizing committee, we would like to welcome you to the Visual Communications and Image Processing 2005. The conference will take place in Beijing, China, 12-15 July 2005. Prior to your arrival at Beijing we would like to draw your attention to the following items.
Conference Venue
The conference will be held at Beijing Friendship Hotel. It is located in the Hi-Tech Development Zone, Zhong Guan Chun, Haidian District, right beside the Third-Ring Road with many flexible transport facilities.
The main venue is located in the Friendship Palace.
The registration desk is located in the lobby of the Main Building.

Travelling to Beijing
The Beijing Capital International Airport, for both international and domestic flights, is located 27 kilometers (16.8miles) north of the city center.
The taxi fare is approximately RMB 100-150 (including highway toll) depending on the type of car (1.6RMB/km or 2.0RMB/km) you take from airport to Beijing Friendship Hotel. There is an official line for taxi outside the arriving terminal. Be sure to keep the note-card containing the taxi plate number from the taxi dispatcher and ask for your printed receipt when you get off the taxi. You have the right to decline any payment if the driver could not provide you a receipt. Don’t take any unlicensed taxi offered by anyone randomly approaching you.

At the conference desk you will receive a conference bag with conference material in it, including your registration receipt and badge which you will have to wear throughout the conference.

Welcome Reception
The welcome reception and MSRA open house will be held at the B1 conference room at Beijing Sigma Center (No. 49 Zhichun Rd, where Microsoft Research Asia is located) at 17:00 – 19:00 on July 12.
Shuttle bus from Beijing Friendship Hotel to Sigma Center departs at 16:00 in front of Main Building of Friendship Hotel and from Sigma Center to Friendship Hotel departs at 19:00 in front of Beijing Sigma Center.
Oral Presentations
You should be present in the lecture room for your presentation and report to the session chair 15 minutes before the start of the session. Your presentation should be kept within 20 minutes (15 minutes for the talk and 5 minutes for questions). Please pay attention to the session chair, who will signal you to bring your presentation to a close when your time is used up.
In every room a laptop computer, a laser pointer and a projector will be available. Please put your presentation on a CD-ROM or USB stick (Apple presentations may cause problems). If you need other special equipment, please let us know as soon as possible.
Poster Presentations
The poster presentations will take place in the Main Venue. Please arrange your poster at least half an hour before the start of the session.
The size of the poster boards is 841mm (width) x 1189mm (height). Each presenter will have one poster board to display his material. Adhesive tape will be provided at the service desk to put your poster on the board.

Conference Banquet
On Thursday evening there will be a conference banquet in the Main Building of Beijing Friendship Hotel, where we will announce the best student paper awards and young investigator award. If you have registered for the conference at regular rate, you will receive one banquet ticket when checking in the conference.
If you need additional banquet ticket, you can send an e-mail to vcip2005@eonsolution.com.cn or buy it on-site at the conference desk. The cost of the banquet is USD 50. Please inform us in your e-mail whether you prefer to pay the additional amount by credit card or by bank transfer.
Payment Status
The non-student registration fee includes access to all technical sessions, plenary speeches and panel discussions, lunches, coffee breaks, 1 set of CD-ROM proceeding, 1 conference guide, 1 reception ticket and 1 banquet ticket.
Student registration includes access to all technical sessions and plenary speeches and panel discussions, 1 conference guide, lunches, coffee breaks and 1 reception ticket. No banquet ticket. No CD-ROM Proceeding.
If you have registered and not paid the total registration fee yet, we kindly ask you to make the payment as soon as possible. Note that except the on-site registration, all payments must be received before the conference begins.

Lunches
The conference fee includes lunches on July 13-14 at Juheyuan Restaurant. You will receive the meal tickets in your conference bag when you checking in. If you need the additional lunch tickets, you can buy it directly at the restaurant.
Hotel Accommodation
You can arrange your hotel accommodation through the VCIP2005 registration website: http://www.eonsolution.com.cn/vcip2005/registration.asp before June 12, after the deadline hotel booking is not guaranteed. Two hotel options are available: Beijing Friendship Hotel (Conference Venue) and Shangri-la Beijing Hotel. Both hotels are located conveniently.
