ChronoZoom Curriculum and Technology (short version)

ChronoZoom is an award-winning, open source, cross-platform, openly-authored timeline of the history — of Everything. Leveraging the latest HTML5 and JavaScript technology, it allows a visitor to zoom from 13.8 billion years to a single day. That is a zoom level of more than 5 trillion percent! To put this into perspective, Adobe Photoshop, one of the most sophisticated image manipulation tools in existence, can only zoom 4625 percent.

ChronoZoom allows you to explore, author, and present multimedia timelines linked to data from around the web. Images, videos, PDF documents, and other web content can be embedded, as well as spreadsheet-generated statistical data. Tours created from such timelines can be authored and presented using an interface similar to PowerPoint and Prezi. No download or installation is required.

ChronoZoom is free, available on GitHub, and usable by anyone with a modern browser — even an iPad or a smartphone. ChronoZoom is designed to enable educators and students to explore time and tell stories about change over time. ChronoZoom comes with a creative commons-licensed, standards-aligned curriculum to enable educators to use ChronoZoom and pedagogy developed by the National Council for the Social Studies and the American Historical Association to teach fundamental concepts of historical thinking at the middle and high-school levels.

ChronoZoom is open-source, cross-platform, and available to everyone. We encourage you to explore its data, create timelines, and use our open APIs to create your own visualizations. Go to join.chronozoom.com for more information.
