Andrew Herbert is responsible for Advanced Technology at Citrix Systems Inc. Citrix is an innovative provider of application server software for enterprise IT organizations and IT service providers.

Andrew has been instrumental in steering the company towards Internet technologies and applications, initiating development of products for web-based application deployment and for the emerging Application Service Provider market. He specializes in Java, networking and security.

Herbert plays a key role in defining Citrix. He runs a dedicated team of research engineers based in the Citrix Cambridge UK office working on new technology, architecture and proof of concept for future Citrix products.

Herbert joined Citrix following acquisition of his company Digitivity Inc in 1998. Digitivity had developed a novel, patented technique for secure deployment of Java clients for business-to-business applications.

Herbert founded Digitivity in 1996 as a spin out from APM Ltd, a research / consulting company he had founded in 1985. While with APM he played an active role in the definition of many early standards for distributed computing including ANSA, TINA-C, ISO/ITU ODP, OSF DCE and OMG CORBA.

Before starting APM, Herbert was a faculty member in the Computer Laboratory at the University of Cambridge in England, where he worked with Roger Needham and Maurice Wilkes on early seminal developments in Local Area Networks and Distributed Computing.
