Programs and Projects at the University of Washington Center for Information Assurance and Cybersecurity

The Center for Information Assurance and Cybersecurity (CIAC) at the University of Washington is an NSA/DHS Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education and Research that promotes an innovative, multi-disciplinary, research agenda. Dr. Endicott-Popovsky, the Center’s Director, discusses the Center as an application of a system-activity approach that, in a relatively short period of time, has enabled expansion of its academic programs and the gelling of a rich pool of technical and organizational talent from the Northwest region that is focused on cybersecurity solutions. Specific projects will be presented that highlight collaboration with Microsoft, including the Next Generation Honeynet Project under the guidance of the UW Chapter of the international Honeynet Project, the Pacific Rim Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition, and the Secure Coding Project. The work of the Center receives the benefit of guidance from the following Microsoft advisors: Kim Hargraves, Michael Howard, Steven Lipner, Arkady Retik, Christian Seifert, Ilanko Subramanian, Kevin Sullivan, and many others.
