Structural Patterns vs. String Patterns for Extracting Semantic Information from Dictionaries

We show a robust procedure for extracting semantic relations from definition text using a general text parser. Examples from both English and Italian are discussed. We argue that applying structural patterns outperforms applying string-based patterns for semantic relations other than Hypernymy.
