In a global computing environment developers have to tackle new security challenges, but distributed environments also open potentials for new privacy enhancing technologies. Whilst the clear distinguish between trusted and untrusted machines fades, users can distribute tasks on many semi-trusted nodes to protect their privacy. AEOLUS aims on an overlay computing framework, which “hides” the complex diversity from the user and makes him able to use the resulting computing power. Since in such an environment users do not have the total control over the machines that process their data new security topics emerge.
