In the past decades, location-based services have experienced its first generation, in which a user is provided with some specific services in terms of their geo-location. The prosperity of Cloud computing brings new opportunities for LBS and push LBS to a new era. In cloud-based LBS, location information is still generated in each user’s mobile client but is aggregated in the cloud. People can share their information among each other via the cloud. Moreover, LBS providers can mine knowledge from these location datasets of large-scale users and better server each user in turn using the knowledge. Overall, the future of LBS is on the cloud.
