Systems
The System Research Group (SRG) at MSR Asia conducts research into the theory and practice of building large-scale distributed systems. The group measures its success with one single word - impact. That is, impact to the system research field in advancing its frontier, impact to Microsoft's product lines through technology transfers, and impact to the community by reaching out and collaborating with system researchers in Asia and the rest of the world.

Wireless and Networking
The Wireless and Networking research group at MSRAsia engages in fundamental research on mobile computing and networking. We strive to advance the state-of-the-art in wireless networking and to create new computing experiences with mobile, pervasive, personal, and embedded devices. Our group members' research interests span wireless networking, mobile systems, phone-based computing, embedded systems, security, and new networking paradigms. We emphasize both analytical and empirical approaches, and build actual systems to validate theoretical results and refine system principles from experimental work.

Platform and Devices
Platforms and Devices Group performs hardware-related research. Some of the projects are aimed for Microsoft's hardware business, but most are intended for mobile applications and services business. Hardware acceleration of core software algorithms, in particular for software as services, is the current main push.
The goal of the Platforms and Devices Group is to create or enable new computing platforms. To achieve that goal, the team works from application software to the device level and builds hardware.
