Here at Microsoft Research we work very hard, but we also know you
can’t work all the time. Well, you can. But you’ll miss all the
really fun
things
to do in and around Seattle.
Intern Benefits
As an intern, you’ll meet new people, work on cool projects, and
get hands-on experience working in an exciting research area.
Approximately 6-8 weeks before your internship begins, one of our
Relocation Specialists will contact you by e-mail to provide
additional detail on your travel, housing, and transportation
options.
Microsoft Research offers the following benefits:
- We take care of getting you here
If you plan to fly, we’ll provide you with an airline ticket via the
most direct route to and from your Microsoft location. Upon arrival,
we’ll reimburse you for your taxi fare. If you plan to drive, we’ll
reimburse you per mile for the most direct route to Microsoft.
- Subsidized housing
We’ll set you up in subsidized housing fully furnished with the
necessities. If you would like, we’ll match you up with roommates
too. Microsoft will even pay for your basic cable, electricity, and
water. Oh, and we also cover one more essential: free housecleaning
services.
- Help with shipping
We’ll contribute toward shipping expenses to help you get your
personal items to and from your new location.
- Subsidized car rental
You need wheels, especially to check out the area.
- Free beverages
This is absolutely true. Unlimited sugar and caffeine.
- Free clothing
We make you wear a uniform so everyone knows you’re an intern. Just
kidding. But we do give out quite a few free T-shirts.
- Software discounts
Get deep discounts on Microsoft software and hardware. Interns can
spend up to $350 per year on these discounted items.
- Health club membership
Nature didn’t intend for you to be swivel chair-bound for eight
hours straight. So we pay for health club dues at a very nice gym. But because Uncle Sam considers us paying your dues as
compensation, you still have to pay taxes on the market value of
your club membership. Just thought you should know.
- Intern events and parties
Interns are invited to shindigs and special events sponsored by
Microsoft and Microsoft Research. It’s a great way to meet other
people and get to know the Puget Sound area at the same time.
- Intern orientation and mentoring
During that first crazy week, we’ll orient you to your job and to
Microsoft in general. You’ll be teamed up with a full-time mentor
from your group who will show you the ropes, give you advice, and
help you get the most out of your internship.
- Salary
Yep. You’re paid. But we can’t give out numbers over the Web site.
The money is comparable with other internships in the industry.
- Bike purchase plan
We give you a choice of using the subsidized rental car plan or
participating in the bike purchase plan. We’ll contribute toward the
cost of a bike and helmet.
- Free bus pass
Get around the city with your free Microsoft bus pass.
