Yahoo! Spam Examples

June 22, 2006: http://dooney-and-bourke-handbag.blogspot.com appears as the top Yahoo! search result for “dooney and bourke handbag” (Figure A1) and redirects to http://www.eash.info/search.php?q=Dooney+and+Bourke&said=BlNewDoon2&track=http%3A//search.yahoo.com/search%3Fp%3Ddooney+and+bourke+handbag%26fr%3DFP-tab-web-t%26toggle%3D1%26cop%3D%26ei%3DUTF-8 to serve ads, some relevant to Dooney and Bourke handbags and some irrelevant (see Figure A2). The URL http://dooney-and-bourke-handbag.blogspot.com is spammed at http://www.usu.edu/honors/forum/show.php?topic=20050824024028 (Figure A3) and many other places. Unlike in the Google case, clicking on the Yahoo! Cached link causes the same redirection.

June 17, 2006: http://seiko-diver-watch.blogspot.com appears as top Yahoo! search result for “Seiko diver watch” (Figure B1) and serves ads from http://loomcompany.com/search/search.php?q=Seiko+Diver+Watch and http://speedsearcher.net/search/search.php?q=Seiko+Diver+Watch&f=&said=&dor=. As shown in Figure B2, some ads appear to be relevant to Seiko diver watch but others have nothing to do with Seiko diver watch. The URL http://seiko-diver-watch.blogspot.com is spammed at http://www.aacd.com/forums/read.php?f=10&i=783&t=783 (Figure B3) and many other places.

June 17, 2006: http://diamond-earring-2006.blogspot.com appears as the top Yahoo! search result for “diamond earring” (Figure C1), redirects to http://best--search.info/jewelry/search.php?q=diamond+earring (Figure C2), and is spammed at http://www.brownco.k12.in.us/phorum/read.php?f=4&i=1&t=1 (Figure C3) and many other places.

June 17, 2006: http://d-motorola-tracfone-ringtones.blogspot.com appears as the top Yahoo! search result for “motorola tracfone ringtones” (Figure D1), serves ads from http://veryfastsearch.com/plain.php?keyword=d+motorola+tracfone+ringtones&aid=306&num=17 (Figure D2), and is spammed at http://www.paradisecreekanglers.com/guestbook/gb.asp?start=750 (Figure D3) and many other places.
